It was amazing how often education and learning had come up in this course on creative techniques. Sir Ken Robinson's TED talk from Week 2 really hit home the shortcomings of the education system - "We are educating people out of their creativity," (Robinson, 2006). How could I save my own daughter from this dilemma?
Even though education IS NOT MY AREA (yet another inhibitor mentioned in Lecture 2), I decided to focus on applying a creativity technique to come up with activities that would inspire creativity in my daughter. While doing this, I'd make sure I covered the Visual/Auditory/Kinesthetic (VAK) learning styles to ensure at least some of the time I was facilitating learning in her preferred style (alas she is still a bit young to take the Index of Learning Styles test herself). I would use the tools I have available to me to do my best at this parenting game, and accept what I don't have control over i.e. the lackluster formal education she may be provided with. But more on this later...
